Recipes:

Khichdi– It has been proved by Ayurveda that khichdi, which is made-up of mung lentil and rice, is a healthy optional food. This dish helps to fight various diseases. It is used in many Ayurvedic therapies because it is easy to digest and puts minimal pressure on the stomach.

Ingredients required- ½ cup of split moon dal, ¾ cup of basmati rice, 1 tsp cumin seeds, ½ tablespoon sesame oil or ghee, ½ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp salt, 1 tsp mustard seeds (optional), ¼ tsp of hing (Asafoetida), ½ pinch chopped ginger, ½ tsp red chili powder, 4 to 7 cups of water .

Preparation Method- Mix rice and lentil, and wash them together. Now take a pan with a heavy bottom and add ghee or oil to it. When the ghee gets warm, add cumin seeds, hing and mustard seeds to it. Leave it as such until the seeds crackle. Add chopped ginger to it and sauté it for next 30 seconds. Now, add rice, turmeric, dal, chili powder and salt (according to taste) to it. Mix all of them well. Now, add water to this and bring it to boil. Stir the mixture from time to time. Cover the saucepan with a lid. Keep the flame low and leave it still for the next 30 minutes. Now, switch off the heat and let it settle for next 5 minutes.

Yellow Mung Dal Soup– Mung dal is an excellent Ayurvedic food which helps in losing weight. It also helps to lessen the effects of vata and kapha doshas. Coriander and other spices are also used as ingredients in its preparation, which aid in overcoming pitta doshas. Most importantly, it is light and easy to digest, and thus, there is no worry of gaining weight when you eat this.

Ingredients– To prepare this wonderful natural cure for obesity, you need a cup of yellow lentil, 6 cups of water, 1 tsp of cumin seeds, ½ tsp of black mustard seeds, 2 tsps of clarified butter or ghee, ½ tsp of rock salt, ½ tsp of ground coriander seeds, 1 pinch of hing and 2 tsps of chopped fresh coriander leaves.

Preparation Method– Wash the dal. Add dal along with water in the pot. Cook both for 30 minutes. Stir them after short periods until the dal becomes soft. Take another pan and add ghee to it. Place the pan over medium heat. When it becomes hot, add all spices to it. Now, add this to the soup. Mix them well. Garnish the mixture with chopped coriander leaves. You can either have it with chappati, rice or take it alone.
